MANAUS (AM) – Activists and indigenous leaders pleaded on social networks for justice in the case of feminicide of the child Raissa Guarani Kaiowá, of the Guarani Kaiowá ethnicity, who was only 11 years old, found dead and unclothed on the morning of August 9, in a deactivated quarry in the Bororó village, the community where she lived in the federal indigenous reserve of Dourados, in Mato Grosso do Sul. According to the Civil Police (PC), the young girl was the victim of a gang rape and died after being thrown from a cliff approximately 20 meters high. On Tuesday, 10, five men confessed to having committed the crime and were arrested.

Sonia Guajajara, an indigenous leader, when talking about the case in a publication on Twitter, also remembered the assassination of the teenager Daiane Griá Sales, age 14, who was also found dead on August 4 near the Guarita Indigenous Land in the municipality of Redentora in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul. Daiane had the lower part of her body ripped apart, probably by the action of animals, according to the police officer in charge of the case, Vilmar Alaídes Schaefer.

“Today, International Day of the Indigenous People, we receive another sad news that kills part of us. Last week it was Daiane Kaingang brutally murdered and butchered, today Raissa Guarani Kaiowá, stop killing the body and future of our children and youth. We demand justice,” wrote Sonia on Twitter.

The National Articulation of Indigenous Women Warriors of Ancestry (Anmiga) in a public statement classified the cases as an atrocity and affirmed that it will not let the crimes go unpunished. For the entity, whoever commits violations like these against indigenous children, kills equally himself and also Brazil.

“The National Articulation of Indigenous Women demands justice! We will not let it go unpunished, nor will we be silenced. We fight for human dignity, combating gender violence and so many other gender violence and so many other violations of rights. The violence committed by a sick society cannot continue to be trivialized, filled with men without respect and human composure, savagery, repugnance, and gruesomeness. Whoever commits such an atrocity against women, daughters of the earth, also kills himself, also kills Brazil”, says part of the note.

The case

The sexual abuse was confirmed after the necropsy examination. Among the five men who confessed to the crime, three were teenagers aged 16, 14 and 13, and two adults, one of them being the victim’s uncle. The suspects told the police that when the girl fainted and regained consciousness, the murder plan began. At that point, after the victim threatened to report the suspects, she was dragged by her hair to the quarry.

“At first, they arranged and took this girl there to commit a sexual crime against her and, after raping her all night, they ended up throwing her off the cliff with the idea of taking her life, because she would have regained consciousness, started screaming, asking for help saying that she was going to report them and they ended up throwing her off,” said police chief Erasmo Cubas, in charge of the case.

Raissa’s body was found by family members in the deactivated quarry. The clothes of the girl, who was naked, were found on top of the rock cliff.

According to the delegate, during the period of the night when the girl was being raped, the suspects forced the victim to drink alcoholic beverages and began the collective sexual abuse, when the child’s uncle would have arrived on the scene, witnessed the situation and also helped to rape his niece.

“It is a brutal crime. It is even difficult to speak and listen to the way it was said by them,” said the delegate. Still according to Cubas, Raissa’s uncle also confessed that he had raped the girl since she was 5 years old.

The accused will be indicted for the crimes of rape, feminicide, and murder in the first degree. The teenagers should answer for infractions analogous to the same crimes.
