MANAUS – The partisan movement of President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) that can join the Liberal Party (PL) in the coming days moves the backstage of politics in the Amazon. Traditional names in the states are urging caution from allies, until Bolsonaro’s definition in the legend. In the nine states of the Legal Amazon, Bolsonaro has six allied governors and several federal lawmakers who are part of the allied base in the National Congress.

According to the PL press office, Bolsonaro will join the party. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 22nd, in Brasilia. Bolsonaro himself met with the president of the legend, former Congressman Valdemar da Costa Neto, on Wednesday, 10, at the Planalto Palace. However, the affiliation has not yet been confirmed by the president of the Republic. However, his statements already assure great chances of joining the PL.

Allies

One of Bolsonaro’s main allies in Amazonas is Colonel Menezes, pre-candidate for the Senate who said he wants to be wherever the president is. “This is already written in the stars since the time of Christ”, declared the politician about a possible affiliation in the PL after the president’s entry.

Federal lawmaker Captain Alberto Neto (Republicans) stated that he must wait for the opportune moment to make a possible party switch. “I can only make the decision in March, because of the party window”, said the parliamentarian.

The state lawmaker Delegate Pericles Nascimento (PSL) stated that he is waiting for the final affiliation to manifest himself. “I will wait for the final decision from President Bolsonaro so that, from there, we can talk and decide my destiny. Meanwhile, I follow my mandate”, declared Pericles.

The former state lawmaker and former councilman Chico Preto (without party) said that Bolsonaro’s affiliation is justified because of the maintenance of the base in the House and Senate, a fact that can help the president to discuss and forward stalled votes in Congress. “Besides that, the PL is a medium and large party, which gives the president a good political and electoral support towards the reelection process”, explained Chico.

Opponents

In an interview with journalist Andréa Sadi, from Globo News, the governor of Maranhão, Flávio Dino (PSB), dismissed the possible reelection of President Bolsonaro to the Presidency of the Republic. Dino also stressed the comparisons between Lula and Bolsonaro and highlighted more positive points of the Petista than in Bolsonaro.

“When you compare Lula and Bolsonaro, (…) you will find attributes, positive aspects, which will make it very unlikely, in my opinion, that Bolsonaro will be able to overcome, in contrast, the set of failures that he has, with the set of successes and accomplishments that former president Lula had. The 600,000 deaths, the denialist, negligent, clumsy conduct. The moment all this is put on the table, I really think it’s very, very, very unlikely, I would say practically impossible, that Bolsonaro will be reelected”, said Dino.

The federal lawmaker from the Amazon, Marcelo Ramos, announced on Monday, 8, in a statement to “Roda Viva” interview show, from TV Cultura Brazil, the output of the Liberal Party (PL), after the acronym confirm the affiliation of President Jair Messiah Bolsonaro aiming for elections 2022. The vice-president of the House said he does not intend to be in the same political palanquin as Brazil’s mandatary.

“I will not be in the palanquin with him. Even if he did not join the PL, but if the PL supported him, I would not be in his palanque, I would be in another”, Marcelo Ramos told the program.

Analysis

For political analyst Carlos Santiago, Bolsonaro is further strengthened by his affiliation with the PL. “This further strengthens his support in the states and especially in the Amazon region. “He has support from Amazonas, Roraima, Rondônia, Acre, as well as Tocantins and numerous leaderships. However, both Bolsonaro and his opponents have so far not indicated any solution for the region’s problems”, Santiago analyzed.
