MANAUS – The end of year celebrations in Manaus heated up the commerce and hiring in the capital of Amazonas reached four thousand vacancies permanently occupied, according to what the president of the Chamber of Store Managers (CDL), Ralph Assayag, informed to CENARIUM. Still according to the representative of the institution, the expectation for January is still in suspension, mainly, by the preventive measures to Covid-19 that may affect the commerce.
“December was a good month in relation to 2020, when everything was closed. So, we had a very good first half, a Christmas that reached what we had sought in research. On top of the 13%, we had 12% over 2020. We had a higher number of stores inaugurated, higher hiring, four thousand permanent ones”, he said.
Still according to Assayag, the commerce in the beginning of January is marked by the exchanges, when consumers go to stores to exchange gifts they have won or bought. This moment of lower turnover, he points out, is ideal for shopkeepers to reorganize the business after the “rush” of the end of the year.
“In the month of January, everyone has to make the most of it to exchange gifts, restock small things that were missing, reorganize the company,” he highlights. “Especially in this period there is that tension about Covid-19, which we see growing in other countries with an increase in admissions. So, we don’t know exactly what to do, but we will try to have the tranquility to make the projects for 2022 and try to get the maximum maintenance of employees, which is what makes the wheel turn,” he adds.
Forecast
About the forecast for the month, the expectation is also in relation to the Permanent Aid, granted by the Government of Amazonas, and the New Family Grant from the federal government. The shopkeepers count on the values for the reheating of the commerce in the second half of January.
“It is very difficult to make a comment on how January will be, it will also depend on whether we have a political year, what will come out of the government, the R$ 400, plus the R$ 200, from the federal and state, to improve and ease the lives of everyone. So, there is a lot for us to know the feeling of what is going to happen. But I hope that the perspectives are good so that we can start the year and from the second half week on, if we have tranquility in the health part, we can think of a stronger year than 2021”, he concludes.
Preventive measures
On Friday, 7, the Government of Amazonas, after the recommendation of the Crisis Committee of the State Department of Health (SES-AM), announced some preventive measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 and other flu syndromes in the state. A decree that goes into effect this Saturday, 8, suspends the holding of events of any nature with ticket sales in all Amazonian municipalities, regardless of the amount of public. The measure to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 is valid indefinitely.
The decree also establishes that social events of a private nature, without the sale of tickets, such as weddings, birthdays, graduations, can take place, but limited to 50% of the venue’s capacity and a maximum of 200 people. The venues must also follow the protocols of distance, use of mask, alcohol gel, and regularity of vaccination status.
The Crisis Committee of the State Department of Health (SES-AM), coordinated by Secretary Anoar Samad, also made a technical visit to the Covid-19 Nilton Lins Hospital and Getulio Vargas University Hospital (HUGV) this week to monitor the structure and availability of beds. The health units can be used in case of an eventual increase in the number of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) cases in the state and, also, the need to expand the assistance network.
The last daily Covid-19 bulletin from the Health Surveillance Foundation of Amazonas Dr. Rosemary Costa Pinto (FVS-RCP) informed the diagnosis of 363 new cases of Covid-19, totaling 434,958 cases of the disease in the state. Among the confirmed cases in Amazonas, there are 73 patients hospitalized in Manaus, 43 in clinical beds (two in the private network and 41 in the public network), 30 in ICU (three in the private network and 27 in the public network).
