MANAUS – R$ 482 million of the largest bonus in the history of the Fund for Maintenance and Development of Basic Education and the Appreciation of Professional Education (Fundeb), paid by Governor Wilson Lima (PSC) in single installment, on 23 December, will boost the economy in the Amazon. Teachers consulted by CENARIUM MAGAZINE said they intend to invest the resource in home renovation, advance payments of bills, travel and even purchase vehicles.

In all, 32,966 professionals from the State Department of Education and Sports and the Center for Technological Education of Amazonas (Cetam) will receive the benefit. The teachers will receive up to R$37.9 thousand for those who work 60 hours. Those who work 40 hours will receive R$25,200, and teachers with 20 hours, R$12,700. Administrative employees will also receive R$ 12,600.

Jhuacelly Veiga, teacher at the State School Maria Araújo Pinto, located in the rural municipality of Manicoré (331 kilometers from Manaus), told the report that the Fundeb money comes at a good time for her family and that will serve to realize the dream of buying a motorcycle. The educator says that acquiring the vehicle will allow her to commute to the school.

“The money from Fundeb comes at a good time, because these are dreams that can come true in this final stretch of the year, like buying a motorcycle, which will help me get from my community to school”, said Jhuacelly Veiga, who teaches high school students.

The teacher preferred not to talk about her workload and pointed out that the journey from her home to the school where she teaches, on foot, takes about an hour. In the rabeta route (a kind of small boat), following the Rio Madeira that borders Manicoré, the trip takes half an hour, but with a motorcycle the displacement would be much faster, according to the educator.

“It will be of great help to buy this motorcycle. In addition, I will also be able to continue renovating my house. It was a great gift, at the end of this year, to receive this transfer that all of us teachers deserve. We who work with education feel valued, while the government gives back to us what is rightfully ours”, she emphasized.

Investment in the car and travel

Chemistry teacher Vanessa Coelho, who has a 40-hour workload, informed CENARIUM that she will anticipate the installments of her car with the allowance resource. Vanessa says that she recently bought the vehicle, with 48 installments to pay. Besides investing in the car, the educator says she intends to take a vacation trip.

“My first investment is to anticipate the installments of my car, because I paid 48 installments and this money is coming at a good time. I also intend to take a vacation trip, which I haven’t done in a long time. If I have some money left over, I want to remodel my room”, Vanessa said.

Opportunity to sell

With the announcement of the payment of Fundeb, car dealers in the Amazon seized the moment to announce the sale of cars. In Manaus, the vehicle store ‘Carro Baca’, located on Avenida Tefé, in the neighborhood Cachoeirinha, in the south of the city, mobilized in social networks to draw the attention of professionals who will receive the bonus.

“Are you going to receive the Fundeb? We have a deadline for you to pay the down payment [of the vehicle] as you receive it”, says an ad from the dealership.

History

The first Fundeb was paid in 2016, in the amount of R$ 517.39 per 20 hours. In 2017, the amount reached R$ 7,874.98. Already in 2018, teachers and pedagogues received R$ 3,600 for every 20 hours of work. In 2019, they were paid R$ 750 per hourly load. In 2020, all Education employees received R$ 4.2 thousand for every 20 hours. This year, the resource paid by the government is the largest in history.
