BRASILIA (DF) – More than six thousand indigenous people are concentrated in the Três Poderes Square, in Brasília, in front of the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), to follow the vote on the thesis of the temporal mark (Extraordinary Appeal (RE) No. 1017365), scheduled to begin this Wednesday afternoon, 25th. The mark is considered a threat to indigenous people throughout Brazil. Around 3:30pm, the last delegation arrived at the square, which became a stage for dances, rituals and prayers.

To CENARIUM, Francisco Guajajara, of the Guajajara ethnic group, from the state of Maranhão, who is among the manifestants in front of the STF, is optimistic about the decision of the ministers and believes that the thesis will be rejected.

“It won’t pass, the tendency of the ministers is to follow the reporter. Today’s ministers have a different mind, they know that the temporal mark has only caused confusion. The indigenous people don’t need to prove anything, we are here long before Pedro Álvares Cabral”, he concluded. The reporter of the case is the Minister Edson Fachin.

Since the evening of Tuesday, 24, the leaders have been gathered at the Três Poderes Square and the demonstration has drawn the attention of the international media. In the opinion of the indigenous chief Caboquinho Potiguar, from the northern coast of Paraíba, the temporal mark should not be approved. “If it passes, there will be more than 8 thousand lawsuits. If it is approved, it will be a great setback for the indigenous people”.
