VILHENA (RO) – The greatest gift ever received by Andressa Nunes Rodrigues, 18, and Vitor Ferreira de Andrade, 20, came in the most surprising way possible, as the first time parents tell us in an exclusive interview to CENARIUM. After two years of dating and six months of marriage, the birth of little Miguel, which could have been another ordinary birth, “bombed” on social networks when the baby was born with a swollen head. The surprising case occurred in Vilhena, the fourth largest city in Rondônia.
A video that records the moment Miguel came into the world, less than 30 days ago, has already accumulated more than 3.5 million views on social networks. He was born with a swollen baby, a condition considered very rare by medicine and which occurs when the baby is removed from the uterus without bursting the amniotic sac.
Andressa says that she could only see the magic moment when the doctor broke the bag after the video recording. “I couldn’t see it, because the sheet was in front of me, right? But I could feel the vibration from the medical team; everybody very happy, asking for the cell phone to record, people commenting (…) this emotion I felt when I heard, but I only saw it later through the video”, she explains, detailing that the one who followed everything live was her husband Vitor.
“As I entered the operating room, I was quite nervous and emotional, because my son was being born. And, seeing the way he was born, I didn’t even know if that was possible, because it is such a rare birth that I couldn’t even imagine. God blessed us in that wonderful, beautiful birth. I just knew how to cry, I just cried”, says the emotional father.
The arrival
Miguel was born on November 20th, measuring 50 centimeters and weighing 3,100 kg. The baby arrived in a hurry, five days ahead of schedule, by means of a c-section, completely changing the lives of the young people who discovered their love for each other after a meeting of friends.
“It was a very big surprise, because I dreamed that Miguel would be born, and when I woke up he was already colicky. We went to work in our company, the colic was increasing. I contacted my doctor, and at 2 pm we went to the hospital. When we arrived, the doctor did the touch exam and said: ‘it’s coming! At that moment I started to feel nervous, my husband was thrilled and it was like that!
“But it was very nice, you know? Because, above all, we had great confidence in the medical team, in my obstetrician, who gave us great support since the prenatal. So, even though we were nervous about his arrival, we were sure that it would work out and that it would be incredible”, added the young woman, who is also preparing to be a doctor in the future.
The Discovery
The parents also tell us that even though the pregnancy was unplanned, the child was much desired and loved since the discovery of the pregnancy.
“It was a shock at the time, because we didn’t expect it. And, since we were new to being parents and had no experience, we were quite scared. But, thank God, after the first week, which was the adaptation week, it was just a blessing. We got real and rolled up our sleeves, because we had a child to take care of coming”, said the father, who has divided his attention between his wife, his son, and the telephone and accessory company from which he makes a living for his family.
“We have prayed a lot since I found out I was pregnant. And we believe that it was a gift from God in our lives, because it brought us a lot of evolution, a lot of growth. As Dr. Nilton (the family’s obstetrician) says: ‘all children are already blessings, but some babies are born with a star. And we believe that Miguel was born shining and bringing much light into the lives of many people. We believe that, with time, this will only get longer, that he will be a very blessed boy full of light”, revealed Andressa.
Rarity
Miguel’s birth is an extremely rare case in medicine. Only 1 in every 80 thousand babies is born with a stunted birth. Because of this, many people have contacted the family to ask questions, believing that it is possible to choose the same type of birth.
The obstetrician Nilton Ramirez, who performed the surgical procedure, is proud of the achievement and says that it is not possible to predict when a baby will be born without bursting the bag, and that the technique is usually used in cases where it is necessary to protect the child from an infectious disease that the mother may have. In Andressa’s case, what happened, in fact, was just a set of favorable conditions for a “spectacle of life”.
“The empelic birth by cesarean section, in mothers without comorbidities, is very rare indeed. Andressa’s birth was not planned to be that way. The team knew everything she was going through during her pregnancy, so at the time of the c-section, the team decided to try the technique of staggered labor to give a different kind of joy to the couple”, explained Ramirez, who has been perfecting the technique for more than a decade, precisely to help protect the health of mothers and babies.
Message for the future
Even more emotional at the end of the interview, Andressa and Vitor left messages for Miguel to understand the importance of November 20 for his parents, as well as to have understanding about the extent of unconditional love that surrounds him.
“Son, you were our not expected, yet expected! You brought much joy into our lives. You arrived shining much brighter than I imagined, and we love you very, very much. Thank you for bringing light into our lives”, declared the mother in tears.
“He came into our lives in a way that we didn’t even realize was going to be so wonderful. He is our greatest asset. Our family is our greatest asset. And I will fight, I will protect, I will do everything, I will give my life for him, so that he grows up to be a man of character, an honest man. I love him. I love being Miguel’s father. It is very gratifying to know that our son is having such an impact and being loved by everyone”, concluded the father.
