MANAUS – The governor of the state of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (PSC) presented this Saturday afternoon, 11, to the Health Minister, Marcelo Queiroga, the structure of the Hospital and Emergency Care (HPS) Delphina Aziz, which is a reference for patients with Covid-19 in the State. After the presentation, the minister recognized the work of the state representative and thanked for the effort of making the structure available to the population.

According to Queiroga, the hospital is a reference for the entire Northern region. “Still in Manaus, I visited the Delphina Aziz Hospital, a reference to the entire Northern region. I am proud to see a hospital like this one to serve SUS patients. I congratulate governor Wilson Lima for his efforts in making this very high level structure available to the people of Amazonas”, he said.

The state representative made a point of thanking the minister for his recognition and attention. “I thank, on behalf of the people of Amazonas, all the attention given by you to our state”, said Wilson. During his visit to the hospital, the governor informed that because of the reduction in hospitalizations, the state already has a plan for the hospital to start working again with surgeries.

Reference

Wilson Lima pointed out that when he assumed the Government of Amazonas, in 2019, the unit was with only 30% of the activated capacity. Besides this, only two of the six floors functioned as emergency room, diagnostic support service and 10 ICU beds.

“I was here talking to the minister and listening to his guidelines and, at this moment, we will attend those surgeries that are basic, general surgeries, but we will make the Delphina Aziz a reference for high complexity, because the hospital’s structure allows us to do that”, reported Lima.

Marcelo Queiroga stressed the importance of having a structure like Delphina hospital in the fight against Covid-19 and highlighted the partnership of the Government of Amazonas along with the city halls for the implementation of vaccine campaigns, as this is the main weapon for the deceleration of the pandemic caused by coronavirus in the state.

Structure

The hospital and emergency room has 180 beds in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and is the fourth largest hospital in the country with beds exclusively for Covid-19 cases. The unit has, in total, 395 beds in operation and six active floors. During the pandemic, the hospital became the third with the most ICU beds for Covid-19 patients in Brazil.

“This hospital is the result of the efforts of the Amazonas health authorities that delivered a very high level hospital structure to the people of Amazonas and I am not afraid to say that it should be a reference for the Northern region of Brazil, for sure. It makes one proud to see a hospital like this one to serve the patients of the Unified Health System (SUS). So, governor Wilson Lima, on behalf of the president, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, as Health Minister, I compliment you for the effort of having made this structure available to the people of the Amazon”, evaluated Queiroga.
