BRASILIA (DF) – Only the congressman Zé Ricardo (PT-AM) voted against the Project of Law (PL) 2633/2020, which defines rules for land regulation in Union and Incra lands. In total, six congressmen from Amazonas cast their votes. Only two deputies, Marcelo Ramos (PL-AM) and Delegate Pablo (PSL-AM) did not vote because they were absent from the plenary, on trips.

The Law Project written by congressman Zé Silva (Solidarity-MG) increases the size of Union lands that can be regularized without a previous inspection, and all that is needed is the analysis of documents and the occupant’s declaration that he follows the environmental legislation.

In the Amazon congressman’s opinion, the PL “paves the way for the increase of deforestation in the Amazon and in Brazil and will not facilitate the lives of small farmers, but rather of large enterprises”, said the congressman.

During the analysis of the matter, other congressmen from the Northern Region states were emphatic in their positions against the project that became known as the “PL da Grilagem”, such as congressman Camilo Capiberibe (PSB-AP), who called attention to the fact that the Amazon Region needs development projects that respect the traditional Amazonian communities and the region’s biodiversity.

According to data from the Institute of Man and Environment of the Amazon (Imazon), released in July, deforestation in the region had a 51% increase over the period from August 2019 to June 2020.
