Whindersson Nunes will auction personal items to help indigenous people affected by rains in Bahia

MANAUS – The Brazilian comedian Whindersson Nunes announced this Saturday, 25, through his Twitter account, that will make a charity auction to help indigenous villages affected by the rains in Bahia. According to the artist, who is also an actor and singer, items that marked his career will be available on a website. The state suffers, according to the Civil Defense, with at least 20 cities completely flooded, more than 4,000 homeless and 17 deaths.

“In the next few days I will release a website auctioning off some of the pieces that marked my life, the clothes from the first show, the ‘what is the password to the Wi-Fi’ clothes, and also the first guitar I had, and several things. The money raised will go to the indigenous villages that suffered from the rains in Bahia”, said the artist in a tweet.

In the comments, fans praised the attitude. “We thank you very much, Whindersson. May the ancestors guide you always”, said one person.

This is not the first time that the artist mobilizes in favor of a cause. In January of this year, the comedian donated more than 200 cylinders of oxygen to the state of Amazonas, which was suffering from crowded health units with people hospitalized with Covid-19 and facing a shortage of oxygen. Whindersson also provided the transport and delivery of 60 respirators for six small hospitals in Manaus, with an estimated value of R$ 300 thousand.

Rains in Bahia

Bahia has been suffering the effects of heavy rains since the end of November. There are 66 cities in emergency situations, at least 20 completely flooded and, since the beginning of the storms, 17 deaths have been registered, according to the state Civil Defense, and 286 people have been injured by the floods.

According to the latest balance of the folder, so far 4,185 people are homeless and 11,260 are displaced – in other words, they had to leave their homes, but did not request shelter. The estimate is that a population of 378,000 people have already been affected.

Governor Rui Costa said that, after a series of meetings this Saturday, he will receive logistical and effective support from at least four states: Maranhão, Rio Grande do Norte, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. In addition, the state government called on the National Council of Military Firemen of Brazil (Ligabom), an institution that brings together firemen from all over the country, to assist in decision making.
