MANAUS – After meeting agenda in Brasilia, Governor Wilson Lima (PSC) signed on Tuesday, 22, in Manaus, 32 new service orders to revitalize state schools in the capital and the countryside of the Amazonas. The measure will cover 22 municipalities in the state and also covers indigenous educational units, with an investment of R$ 19 million, divided between revitalization and agreements.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday, 22, at the headquarters of the Government of Amazonas, on Avenida Brasil, Compensa neighborhood, West Zone, with the presence of mayors of the cities and state lawmakers. For Wilson Lima, the resource allocated to improve the infrastructure of schools will give more comfort and tranquility to students and teachers.

“The investments we are making are historic, never made before. We are revitalizing as many teaching units as possible, reaching more than 64% of the schools in the state network of Amazonas”, commented the governor, while pointing out that the measure reaches the mark of 393 revitalized schools, since 2019.

Among the services to be included are improvements in electrical and hydraulic systems, general painting services, replacement of roofs and, in some cases, expansion of common spaces. According to the governor, so that the revitalization of schools does not compromise the students’ school year, the students whose teaching units will undergo works should be moved to other classrooms or, if necessary, to other schools. It will be up to the managers to analyze each occasion, aiming at the well-being of the teaching class and the students.

“There are cases in which students can study in the same building, and we isolate the area where the work is being done. There are cases of schools where we have to transfer the students to other units. This has to be analyzed, case by case, together with the city halls and our Secretary of Education of the State (Seduc) and the municipalities”, said Wilson Lima.

Agenda in Brasilia

On Tuesday morning, 22, governor Wilson Lima also signed, in Brasília, a Memorandum of Understanding in defense of the Amazon’s sustainable development. The agreement, signed between the Interstate Consortium of the Legal Amazon, the United Nations Organization (UN) Brazil and the governors of the region proposes to implement the UN Multidonor Fund and the Green Recovery Plan (PRV), aiming at the region’s progress.

“The measure helps us advance in the exchange of information, construction of some projects and in the assembly of a monitoring for the achievement of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) established by the UN, in addition to other partnerships such as the opening of possibilities of ways for us to raise funds for sustainability”, said Wilson Lima.
