MANAUS – The public defender from Amazonas, Caroline Braz, took charge of the chair number 74, at the Academy of Arts and Culture of the Amazon (Alcama). The solemnity of graduation and investiture of the new members took place this Friday night, 24, in the Auditorium of the Superior School of Magistracy of the State, located in the Court of Justice of Amazonas (TJAM). In all, 43 new members are now part of the entity, which besides the literary branch, embraces the art and culture of the Amazon.

“Taking this chair represents the recognition for so many struggles in defense of people in vulnerable situations, such as children and women, people with disabilities, as well as the LGBTQIA+ public and the elderly. I am very happy and my focus will always be to work for the most needy population. This motivates us to keep working and debating such important issues that need to come to the surface. To be out of the ‘little house’ of politicians who live in palaces and don’t know the reality of the people who suffer”, comments Braz.

Alcama’s new graduate also took the odd moment to honor her mother, Eliane Silva, who passed away on Friday the 17th from cancer. “I just lost my mother and it was an opportunity to honor her as my patroness. From where she is, we know well that she feels the same joy as everyone around here and, like every mother, smiles with pride”, honored the daughter.

More women

For Caroline, besides the honor, being in charge brings great responsibilities. Braz points out that the various functions performed by the female figure in everyday life, together with the difficulties faced in society, especially when the subject involves the job market, positions and leadership, encourage her to move forward.

“We suffer to reach leadership, management, and political positions. We know how difficult it is for women to enter politics. So this makes the honor greater, but it also places us as responsible for opening these doors, so that other women know that it is possible to reach higher, such as the Academy of Letters. It is a great responsibility to open this path for other women”, she points out.
