MANAUS – During actions of the Amazonas Security Forces, 55 offenders were arrested in the operation “Ready Response” made by the Military Police of Amazonas (PMAM), Civil Police and members of the Secretariat of Public Safety (SSP-AM) in several neighborhoods of the capital, for involvement in acts of apology to crime on the night of Thursday, 10, in Manaus. Besides the arrests, the police teams scattered throughout the city also collected fireworks, firearms, ammunition and drugs. The suspects were presented at police stations that work as Flagrant Centers.

The commander of the Executive Assistant Secretary of Operations (Seaop), Cledemir Silva, informed that the security forces acted immediately to reassure the population and bring a sense of security.

“The Security Forces, Military Police, Civil Police and Fire Department and other agencies fought immediately and quickly, giving a positive response, where there were 55 arrests immediately and all conducted there to the police stations, as has already been informed and transmitted by the gentlemen [referring to the press] and that came to bring a sense of security for our Amazonian society, “said the commander.

The commander of Specialized Policing (COE), Colonel Marcos Vinícius Encarnação, informed that approximately 500 policemen went out to the areas of the city to check the fireworks. The action followed a determination of the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (PSC), that still on Thursday night, 10, informed that the Secretary of Public Safety would arrest those involved in the act.

“Bad night for the bandits. I determined that all the Military and Civil Police forces would go to the streets to put the bandits in their rightful place: in the big cart. So far, approximately 50 of those involved in this little show at the beginning of the night have been arrested. We will not allow criminals to take away the population’s peace,” he said.

According to the delegate-general of the Civil Police, Emília Ferraz, the motivation and the leaders of the fireworks display in the city are being investigated.

“The fireworks display has a connection and we are investigating. I can’t give details, but this celebration is being investigated. What happened is on the radar of the Civil Police and soon we will give the results of the investigations”, explained the delegate, without giving details so as not to compromise the investigation of the criminal act.
