According to the President-Director of the Amazon Environmental Protection Institute (Ipaam), Juliano Valente, this tool is one of the most advanced in recent times. “This is a tool that has 130 satellites, three meters of spatial resolution, and 12 bytes of radio metric resolution. Furthermore, it allows us to monitor and follow the details of a certain area where there is an environmental illicit occurrence”, he explained.

Juliano also highlighted that the tool will allow the identification of illegal deforestation, besides showing more precisely the focus of fires, dam breakings, irregular mining, clandestine tracks, and fraud in forest management. “It makes available a series of information, in particular the preparation of the reports, which are being developed in conjunction with the state security forces”, he said.

The director also explained that this tool inaugurates the implementation of a new way to fight environmental crimes, because it brings the element called “intelligence”. “So, adding to the technological tool and infrastructure that are being developed in Ipaam and that will soon be announced based on geoprocessing, are 130 computers being installed with monitoring screens that, integrated with this tool, will allow the state to have, probably, among the states of the Legal Amazon, the largest technological monitoring center here”, he stressed.
