MANAUS – The Manas Association, a team focused on emergency psychological care for women and girls victims of domestic and intrafamily violence, is conducting a campaign called “Mochila Solidária” in order to collect school kits. The donations will be given to students, children of those assisted by the association, who are in a situation of social vulnerability.

According to the president of the Manas Association, Amanda Pinheiro, donations can be made until the end of this month. Pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, notebooks, backpacks, glue, among other items that are part of the basic list required by schools are accepted. Those interested in helping can deliver the items to the headquarters of the Manas Association. The address must be requested, via Whatsapp, by the number (92) 98428 2832.

“On average, 76% of the women we serve, here in the state of Amazonas, are in a situation of social vulnerability and have children of school age. Education is what generates the real and effective transformation that we need in our society. This initiative already alleviates this specific need, this is the intention”, explains Amanda.

Manas

Until January of this year, the Manas Association has assisted more than 370 women in Manaus and in other states of Brazil. These numbers do not consider the services provided in social actions promoted by the Amazonas Military Police (PM-AM). The services at the site, such as legal, psychological, educational and social assistance guidance, are free of charge.

Even though it is based in Manaus, there is online service available for women from all over Brazil and abroad. The action also has a partnership with Ronda Maria da Penha, in Manaus, helping in the assistance and even rescue and relief of some women when necessary.

The initiative also establishes a partnership with a chain of hotels where the “Acolhe” program is developed, in which women at risk, who have nowhere else to go and need emergency shelter, can stay for up to 15 days – the same period in which she goes through a series of intensive follow-ups carried out by the team.
