Boat used by Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira found submerged in Amazon river

MANAUS – The boat used by the british journalist Dom Phillips and the indigenist Bruno Pereira was found this Sunday, 19, by the search team of the Military Police of Amazonas (PC-AM), with support from firefighters and military Navy. The boat was in the Itacoaí river, near the community of Cachoeira.

According to the Federal Police of Amazonas (PF-AM), the boat will be subjected, in the coming days, to expert examinations to contribute to the full elucidation of the facts. The transport was found after the indication of Jeferson da Silva Lima, aka “Pelado da Dinha”, arrested on Saturday, 18, suspected of participating in the crime.

According to the Amazonas Secretary of Public Safety (SSP-AM), the speedboat was about 20 meters deep, embroidered with six bags of sand to hinder flotation and at a distance of 20 meters from the right bank of the river. The delegate Alex Perez, holder of the 50th Interim Police Station (DIP) Atalaia do Norte, explained that were almost five hours of operation until the search team find the boat. The police also reported that they also found a Yamaha 40 hp engine and four drums of fuel, three on dry land and one submerged, which belonged to Bruno.

Killed by hunting weapons

Journalist Dom Phillips and indigenist Bruno Pereira disappeared in the Javari Valley region, in Amazonas, on June 5 this year, after being threatened in the field. The two were last seen on their way from the São Rafael community to the municipality of Atalaia do Norte. Only last Wednesday, 15th, human remains of the victims were located.

On Saturday 18th, a medical examination conducted by Federal Police (PF) experts indicated that the murder of british journalist Dom Phillips was caused by “thoracoabdominal trauma”, caused by the shooting of a firearm with “typical hunting ammunition, with multiple bullets”, which caused injuries mainly in the abdominal and thoracic regions.

Bruno Pereira, on the other hand, died as a result of “thoracoabdominal and cranial trauma”, also caused by the shooting of a typical hunting rifle and several projectiles, which caused lesions in the thorax/abdomen, where he was shot twice, and in the face/cranium, where he was shot once.
