MANAUS – During a public hearing between the Minister of Justice and Public Safety Anderson Torres and members of the Human Rights Commission of the House, held on the afternoon of Wednesday, 15, to address the death of Genivaldo, by agents of the Federal Police (PF), Lawmaker José Medeiros (PL) got angry and advanced in the bench colleagues.

The situation occurred during the speech of the PSOL Lawmaker, Talíria Petrone, who, at the beginning of the debate, asked to comment first on the homicides of Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips, which occurred in the Amazon. The lawmaker was correlating the crimes, to talk about the lack of action of the Ministry of Justice, when she was interrupted by José Medeiros, a member of Bolsonaro’s allied base.

Medeiros interrupted Petrone’s speech and questioned throughout the discussion the validity of the question asked by the congresswoman. “I would like my speech to be respected”, asked the congresswoman, to which Medeiros replied: “No you won’t, talk about the issue”.

Other members of the commission got angry and, in the middle of curses, were interrupted by the president of the commission, Orlando Silva (PCdoB), who asked for calm and told Medeiros directly to respect his colleagues in the House.

“You are exaggerating, you are exceeding yourself and breaking the rules. You are even breaking decorum by not respecting your colleagues. You should be quiet because the meeting will continue”, said the head of the House when he gave the word back to lawmaker Petrone. Medeiros kept trying to interrupt the president of the commission, asking the other lawmakers to continue on the subject.

When speech was returned to Talíria, she pointed out that she did not hurt the regiment. “Regimentally I can speak about whatever I want, Mr. President. We are talking about executions, deaths, and disappearances, and the disrespect to the families of the dead and disappeared that systematically occurs in this House is impressive. Where have you forgotten your humanity?”, she questioned.

To the Minister of Justice, Talíria questioned where was the State, which failed to protect Funai employees, who just like Bruno, were killed. The minister then replied: “We are discussing, here, one of the biggest problems that our country is experiencing today, and it is not only from my administration, but comes from previous administrations”, said the minister about the presence of criminals, loggers and miners in indigenous lands.
