After noticing that his numbers, in the latest opinion polls, are not favorable to him, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has strongly resumed the coup speech. The latest presidential rants were in Orlando, when he let slip a fear that haunts him: jail, just like what happened to the former president of Bolivia, Jeanine Añez. Añez, while she was at the head of the military coup that deposed former president Evo Morales and for that reason was sentenced to prison. “Her class lost, Evo Morales’ class is back. What happened a year ago? She was preventively arrested. And now 10 years in jail for her has been confirmed. What is the charge? Antidemocratic acts”, says Bolsonaro.

Far-left on the STF’s radar

In addition to launching the usual smokescreen to divert attention from the real-life news – which recently pointed to more than 33 million Brazilians going hungry, Bolsonaro’s speech sought to punish the minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF), who heads the investigation of fake news. To dispel the accusation that he only focuses the investigations on Bolsonaro’s digital militias, the minister of the Supreme Court also included the Party of the Workers’ Cause (PCO), of extreme left-wing bias, in the investigation, after the acronym made a series of attacks on the Court, in its social networks, preaching the dissolution of the STF.

PT highlights hunger

Speaking of hunger in Brazil, the PT (Workers Party) explored the theme in its electoral propaganda debut on radio and TV stations. One minute long, the video shows Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) indifference to the problem and states that a president is like a father or a mother to the population of his country. “A real father or mother takes care of their children. He gives love, protection. And a president is like a father or a mother to his people. No father or mother would see their children hungry, living on the streets, and stand by with their arms folded…”, says an excerpt from the video.

Tebet waves to Ciro

Another character in the presidential race, who is not doing well in the polls, is the MDB pre-candidate for the presidency, Simone Tebet, who best wears the 3rd way costume. Perhaps the poor performance measured so far has motivated Tebet to nod to Ciro Gomes. “On my part, without a doubt, I am open to talk to Ciro. The two of us always talk by zap. [Today, the democratic center has its own candidacy. I respect Ciro, who will not give up his candidacy. But politics is dialogue”, he affirmed in an interview to Estadão. About his probable vice-president – Senator Tasso Jereissati (PSDB), he said he has a history with Jereissati, who was a friend of his father, the late ex-senator Ramez Tebet.

Illegal fishing

With the eyes of the public focused on the Javari Valley, due to the disappearance of the indigenist Breno Pereira and the journalist Dom Phillips, the criminal networks in the region are emerging. Data from Ibama, published by Agência Pública, show that the illegal capture and trade of fish is routine in the area. There have already been 277 notifications for fishing, transportation or sale of pirarucu, surubim and piracatinga, among other species. The majority occurred in the five municipalities of Vale do Javari, between 1998 and 2022, especially in Tabatinga. There is information that Pereira had denounced to the MPF and the Federal Police a criminal organization linked to illegal fishing in Vale do Javari.
