MANAUS – The canned açaí from the company Bony Açaí, from Igarapé Miri, in Pará, competes for the Innovation Awards, from Gulfood 2023, the largest fair of the beverage and food sector in the Middle East. The event takes place in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, and started last Monday, the 20th, and will last until the 24th. The açaí in the can competes in the “best drink” category and competes with a protein water and a tea.

According to the Brazil-Arab News Agency (Anba), the drink is made from açaí, with guaraná syrup, and its consumption is indicated for those who like to have extra energy for gym workouts, for example: “It is an energy drink indeed. It can be used for pre-workouts, for example. And we are very proud to see a product from Brazil as a finalist in the award. It is already a victory”, said Elis Bastos, the brand’s representative in the Emirates.

Also according to Elis, one of the objectives of the participation in the international fair is to establish partnerships to expand, globally, the brand consumption. “Bony wanted to be very big first in Brazil, and only afterwards target the external market. Now, here in Dubai, this is exactly the idea. To find a partner that is prepared to make the distribution, with everything refrigerated”, he explained.

Amazonian

The açaí is a genuine Amazonian fruit and arrived in the Brazilian market in the 1980s. It gained strength in the 1990s with the advance of the bodybuilding gyms and became the “darling” of the fitness public. Pará is the main producing state. The company Bony, based in Igarapé Miri, harvests and processes its açaí and its business plant has a production capacity of up to 250 thousand kilos of pulp per day.

Açaí is original from the Amazon and is the fruit of a palm tree common to the world’s largest rainforest. It is also known as ‘jussara’ (Reproduction/Pinterest)

Bony commercializes the products in the Brazilian market and is at Gulfood 2023 as an exhibitor, at the Brazil Pavilion, organized by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). At the event in Dubai, Brazil is present with more than 100 companies.

Besides ApexBrasil’s national exhibitor pavilion complexes, the fair counts on the participation of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, which took to the event 11 companies from different sectors.
