MANAUS – Focusing on the quality of the information it seeks to offer its readers, CENARIUM AGENCY, which publishes CENARIUM MAGAZINE, has conquered the ISO 9001 international certification and, now, it is the first electronic news magazine certified, according to the records of the company Global Certification System (GCS).

ISO is short for International Organization for Standardization, an entity formed by 162 standardization bodies. In Brazil, ISO is represented by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT).

ISO 9001 is valid in 121 countries and can be defined as a management system to ensure optimisation of processes and greater agility in production and product development in order to satisfy customers and achieve sustained success. To meet ISO requirements, the magazine has created its own quality policy, as described below:

“CENARIUM seeks continuous improvement of its services in communication, innovating content about the Amazon, guided by the local and national scenario, working responsibly, conquering the satisfaction of its customers and collaborators”

The executive director of CENARIUM, journalist Ms. Paula Litaiff, says that ISO 9001 certification leads to the standardization of processes, increasing the responsibility and commitment of the company with professional journalism, guided by the technique, as well as also differentiates the communication vehicle.

“CENARIUM was already concerned with the quality of journalism and now this will intensify with the certification, seeking continuous improvement to offer products with ISO 9001 excellence”, says Ms. Litaiff, who recalled the ISO implementation period. “It was 18 months of hard work with the creation of work instructions, editorial manual and other standards in the administrative process of the magazine”.

Excellence

To achieve this goal, the magazine team relied on the consultancy and training of the company Exithus, of the economist Mr. Marcus Evangelista, president of the Amazonas Economists Union (Sindecon-AM), which was extended to the collaborators in Manaus, to the representatives in the Amazon States and to the branch in Brasília (DF).

Mr. Evangelista points out that, among other business benefits of ISO 9001, are the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer requirements and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements; facilitate opportunities to increase customer satisfaction; address risks and opportunities associated with its context and objectives; and the ability to demonstrate compliance with specified requirements of quality management system.

“The company, in general, is a winner because it avoids rework, starts to produce more efficiently, and everyone wins in the end,” he said. “So it is a very important award and we really hope that this is valued not only by customers, by readers, but also by the employees themselves,” explains Mr. Evangelista.

New challenges

The next step for CENARIUM MAGAZINE is to achieve ISO 14001, which attests to the development of a structure for the protection of the environment and rapid response to changing environmental conditions. The standard considers environmental aspects influenced by the organisation and others that can be controlled by it.
