MANAUS – The civil construction had an increase of 0.64% in the month of October, according to the National Research System of Costs and Indices of Civil Construction (Sinapi), an index that measures the prices of the sector. The accumulated figure for the year, from January to October, is 13.23%. The accumulated variation over the last 12 months is 15.54%. The data were released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) last Thursday morning.

The increase was driven by labor costs, surpassing expenses with materials. The average value was R$ 1,650.43. The average price of construction in Brazil is R$ 1,675.46 in the same period.

For Carlos Flávio, assistant superintendent of the Regional Engineering Council (Crea), the numbers are positive. “The increase in income is positive, it stimulates consumption, the purchasing capacity, and activates, positively, the economy”, he highlighted. For the engineer, the numbers at the other end are also comfortable. “The stable price of materials is good, it brings predictability to business. However, the signs of fiscal irresponsibility in the future will cause inflation, uncontrolled prices, and an unfavorable environment for investments”, he evaluated.

For the manager, 2023 will not bring a positive environment for civil construction. He sees next year with pessimism and does not expect growth for the sector, one of the sectors that employs the most in the Brazilian economy. “After the turbulence of the elections, everything points to a period of inflation, rising public debt, and legal insecurity. Therefore, a very bad environment for investments and growth for the sector”, predicted the engineer.

In the Southeast, the index was recorded in Rio de Janeiro (R$ 804.76) and São Paulo (R$ 790.03).

According to the IBGE, “Sinapi statistics are essential in programming investments, especially for the public sector. The prices and costs assist in the preparation, analysis and evaluation of budgets, while the indexes allow the updating of the values of expenses in contracts and budgets”, said the note.
