MANAUS – “It’s not because we are in a low risk scenario that it has ceased to exist. More than 1 million people, in the state of Amazonas, have not yet taken the 3rd dose of reinforcement of the vaccine against Covid-19. For us to move forward, the only weapon we have is vaccination”, the statement is from the director-president of the Health Surveillance Foundation of Amazonas – Dr. Rosemary Costa Pinto (FVS-RCP), Tatyana Amorim, and is an alert for those who left the third dose aside: do not relax and pay attention to the deadlines and relevance of vaccination against coronavirus.

The president explains that, according to scientific studies, there is a drop in the level of antibodies that act against the virus, therefore, the need for the third application as a reinforcement. “We already have up to the fourth booster dose; we make this appeal because as time goes by immunity decreases and we need to take the booster so that our organism produces antibodies and, thus, we have an adequate titration preventing or softening from aggravating the disease,” she explains.

“It is worrisome”

The infectologist Noaldo Lucena classifies the non-vaccination of booster dose as worrying. The professional warns for the climate transition from winter to summer and the expressive increase of respiratory diseases in this period, a factor that can aggravate, even more, the situation of those who do not take the vaccine correctly.

“It is extremely worrisome, remembering that we are starting to see an increase in the number of cases in the country as a whole. This transition from winter to summer increases the rate of respiratory diseases, then, it is most important that the doses are all taken, because, one or two doses you are not protected against, absolutely, nothing “, says the doctor who complements the speech of the president of (FVS-AM).

“Remembering that the vaccine does not prevent you from catching the disease, but serves to, if you do, it does not evolve into something more serious, hospitalization or death,” points the infectologist.

Besides the care against Covid-19, the doctor also emphasizes the care and attention to other vaccines. “It is essential to complete the vaccination scheme, not only for Covid-19, but the influenza vaccine and triple viral vaccine also need to be taken seriously, as urgently as possible, so that we avoid a new conflict; each of us is responsible for the collective improvement,” adds the infectologist.

For the epidemiologist at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Jesem Orellana, part of society appears to have lost its fear and is no longer concerned about the damage Covid-19 can cause if concerns are ignored.

“It seems that we are testing the virus, but with consequences that limit or kill not only in Manaus, but in several places in Brazil as well. Everything repeats itself, like at the end of 2021. Vaccine available, but people have abandoned masks and other precautions. Now, unbelievably, the vaccine is the victim of abandonment. There is no way to be optimistic about this worrying and threatening reality, especially in Manaus, after the horrors we have seen,” he laments.

According to data released by the Health Surveillance Foundation of Amazonas Dr. Rosemary Costa Pinto (FVS-RCP), until this Friday, 3, an average of 7,143,803 doses were applied throughout the state, being 3,166,959 of first dose, 2,621,604 of second dose, 62,533 with single dose, 1,200,387 of first reinforcement dose and 92,320 of second reinforcement dose.

Only in Manaus, according to data available on the page ‘Imuniza Manaus’, the numbers reach 732,226 doses applied. According to the page, are 1.828.522 first doses applied and 1.577.679 people who were vaccinated with the second dose.
