MANAUS – The North Region opened the first half of the year with the most expensive prices for diesel, diesel S-10 and ethanol in Brazil. The survey conducted by the Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), points out that the average of the region is above R$ 7 a liter. Compared to March, the increase is about 3.10% (diesel), 2.88% (diesel S-10) and 1.49% (ethanol) at the pumps.

The state of Pará was the one that presented the highest averages. The Para service stations sell ethanol at an average of R$6.677. On the opposite side is Amazonas, which sells the same fuel at the pumps for R$ 5.556, the lowest average price in the region.

The most expensive gasoline among the seven states was identified in Pará, at R$ 7.772. The lowest price was registered in Amapá, at R$ 6.918. “Gasoline ends up being the most advantageous option for consumers who fill up in all the states of the region, according to the last Ticket Log survey,” points out Douglas Pina, General Director of Mainstream of the Fleet and Mobility Division of Edenred Brazil.

Alternatives

Despite seeming more advantageous, some consumers still prefer to use the alternatives. Alexandre Mascarenhas, from the state of Amazonas, who works as a charterer, uses both diesel and ethanol, and says he prefers to fill up in another state.

“I use ethanol in my private car, I prefer to use it because it is cheaper than gasoline. Diesel, on the other hand, is complicated, I need to work with it and, per week, I use about 450 liters of diesel in my truck, that’s more than R$ 2 thousand, per week, which I spend only in the trips I make”; he tells that diesel has been weighing more and more in his pocket.

“Before I used to spend R$ 2 thousand on diesel to go to Boa Vista and come back to Manaus, nowadays you spend R$ 3 thousand. And we can’t increase the freight, because it is more expensive for the clients. This really hurts our pocket”; he also comments that although the average price of diesel is lower in Amazonas, he still prefers to fill up in Roraima, because the oil is even cheaper. “Incredible as it may seem, in the state of Roraima there is fuel that comes from here in Manaus and there they sell it cheaper”.

Diesel Price

Also according to the survey, the most expensive diesel and S-10 diesel were distributed at the gas stations in Acre, at R$7.621 and R$7.561, respectively. When compared to the previous month, the biggest increases, in the averages of both fuels, were registered in Acre for the common type (6.35%) and in Pará for the S-10 type (5.79%). The lowest average prices were found at service stations in the state of Amazonas, at R$ 6.582 for the former and R$ 6.672 for the latter.
