Federal institutions of the Amazon are affected by budget blockade of R$ 344 million in the MEC

MANAUS – At least 22 institutions located in the Amazon are among those who suffered budget block after determination of the Bolsonaro Government last Monday, 28. In total, were withdrawn R$ 1.68 billion from the Ministry of Education (MEC) and, according to the National Association of Directors of Federal Institutions of Higher Education (Andifes), R$ 344 million of universities.

This year, the budget of federal institutions was blocked at least twice. The first embargo occurred in May and the second, in October. “Once again, our education being treated without any priority!”, said the Andifes, on Tuesday, 29, without specifying the amounts blocked from each institution.

Manifestations

After the announcement of the blockade, some institutions have manifested. The Federal University of Pará repudiated the cut in resources and reported that the retention is equivalent to R$ 1.8 million, only in the institution.

“The Federal University of Pará expresses its repudiation of the new cut in the budgets of universities and the expectation of reversing it in negotiations with the National Congress. The value of the cut in UFPA is equivalent to 1.8 million reais”, he said in a statement.

Already the Federal University of Roraima (UFRR) stated that the blockade is equivalent to R$ 7.5 million, which includes funding and investments and represents approximately 20% of the total resource.

“This block represents a significant amount, and worrying, if we consider that the discretionary value (operating value) of UFRR is R $ 38,489,031.00. Moreover, a blockade occurred in the last month of the fiscal year is characterized as cutting, given the impossibility of reversing this scenario in the current year”, said the institution.

MEC at disposal

In a statement, the Ministry of Education (MEC) said it received the notification from the Ministry of Economy about the budget blocks made and said it remains with the “open communication with everyone and keeps the negotiations with the Ministry.
