Flood 2022: six AM municipalities are in a state of emergency, according to Civil Defense survey

MANAUS – The report produced by the Amazonas Civil Defense, through the Monitoring and Warning Center – CEMOA, points out that six municipalities, located in the Juruá and Purus rivers, are in a state of emergency due to the flooding of the rivers. Of the six states, five have already had decrees ratified because of the flooding.

Almost 15 thousand families are affected in all, in the municipalities of Guajará, Envira, Eirunepé, Ipixuna, Boca do Acre and Itamarati. In Guajará, the first municipality to publish a decree of emergency, houses are already under water and at least 5,565 people have been affected by the rising river. The city hall and the civil defense of the municipality communicated, through a note, that they are providing assistance to all the families to try to minimize the damage caused and that the affected people have been mapped and included in the system to request help from the State.

Also according to the report, at least nine municipalities are in a state of attention: Manicoré, Novo Aripuanã, Uarini, Alvarães, Tefé, Coari, Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, and Barcelos. Another 43 are in a state of alert, they are: Carauari, Juruá, Pauini, Lábrea, Tapauá, Beruri, Canutama, Borba, Nova Olinda do Norte, Atalaia do Norte, Benjamin Constant, Tabatinga, São Paulo de Olivença, Amaturá, Santo Antônio do Içá, Tonantins, Jutaí, Fonte Boa, Codajás, Anori, Anamã, Caapiranga, Manacapuru, Iranduba, Manaquiri, Careiro Castanho, Careiro da Várzea, Itacoatiara, Presidente Figueiredo, Rio Preto da Eva, Silves, Autazes, Urucurituba, Itapiranga, Barreirinha, Boa Vista do Ramos, Nhamundá, Urucará, São Sebastião do Uatumã, Parintins, Maués, Manaus, and Novo Airão.

Although it is not yet at its most critical time, according to the Amazonas Civil Defense, a total of 96,344 people and 24,086 families have already been affected by this year’s flood in the state of Amazonas. In Manaus, the Rio Negro reached 28.56 meters this Monday, 25th. The number is only 16 centimeters lower than the one registered on the same day last year, when the capital reached a record high.
