MANAUS – Municipal Public Cleaning employees gathered on the night of Wednesday, 27, in the Japiim neighborhood, south zone of Manaus to pay tribute to fellow profession Aldenir Rodrigues Castilho, 27, killed while working on the night of Tuesday, 26.

In addition to the employees, residents of the street 5 de setembro and the cross S6, were on site to support the workers and protest for more security.

“Very sad, this guy passed on my street about 20 minutes before this tragedy, he took my garbage from my hand, I got scared when I saw the report today. It’s so sad, we who have children are more terrified every day, knowing that these vermin can make any one of us victims. Only Jesus can continue protecting our lives and the lives of our families. Very sad,” reports a resident of the neighborhood.

Aldenir’s body is at the Medico-Legal Institute and will be transported on Thursday afternoon, 28th, to the city of Benjamin Constant, where he will be mourned and buried by his family.

The case

Aldenir had been providing services for 8 months to the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Cleaning (SEMULSP). The employee, along with the team, was performing the daily collection of waste in the S6 alley when a robbery was taking place in the region. According to information from the Civil Police, the street sweeper was frightened by the approach of the suspects and was shot by one of the assailants.

Aldenir was rescued and taken to the Hospital and Emergency Room 28 de Agosto, in the Adrianópolis neighborhood, but he could not resist the injuries and died in the unit.

SEMULSP issued a statement regretting the fatality and says it is supporting the family at this time. “A team from SEMULSP’s social service, together with Marquise’s, is at the IML providing all the necessary support,” says the secretary of the folder, Altervi Moreira.

The Specialized Homicide and Kidnapping Police Station is investigating the case to identify the suspects.
