MANAUS – President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and first lady Michelle Bolsonaro were together in the federal government’s Christmas message released this Friday, 24. In just over a minute of the video, Michelle almost completely dominated the message, but neither mentioned at any time the Covid-19 pandemic that has left more than 600,000 dead in the country.

“With dignity and respect for others, we spare no effort to support everyone and especially the most vulnerable. We do not stray at any time from what we believe and defend: God, homeland, family, and freedom”, said the first lady.

Bolsonaro, meanwhile, emphasized that it was a year of many difficulties, failing to mention the health crisis instaured in Brazil. “However, we have not lacked seriousness, dedication, and fraternal spirit in planning and building public policies in favor of all families”, highlighted the president of the Republic.

Female presence

Michelle’s participation comes days after the release of a video in which Bolsonaro appears dancing a sexist funk on a boat, as recalled the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper. The video provoked a reaction from evangelicals, one of the bases of support for the head of the Executive in society.

Days later, the first lady, faithful of a Baptist church and who was not on her husband’s trip to the coast of São Paulo, hinted that she took the episode lightly: on Instagram, she wrote that she was “following events closely”, added two emojis laughing and tagged an account that honors the couple.
