MANAUS – The Amazonian soccer will have financial support to improve the performance and quality of local sports. The incentive, entitled “State Sports Grant”, was announced this Sunday, 15, by Governor Wilson Lima (União Brasil) and aims to inject R$ 9 million in development, from grassroots sports to high performance, benefiting competitions from grassroots to professional, male and female, and in local, regional and national levels. The launch was held in the Bossa Nova Room, the Arena da Amazônia, located at Avenida Constantino Nery, Flores, South-Central Zone of Manaus.

“We are, today, making an investment announcement for the Amazon sports, is the largest investment ever. We are delivering, here, R$ 9 million to help grassroots and professional sports. Inclusively, we are opening edicts for the participation of federations of the most different modalities. I am very happy and I have no doubt that these athletes will be champions not only in sports, but in life. The children who start their lives in sports improve in everything. They are athletes who will bring pride to their families and to the North Region”, declared governor Wilson Lima during the launching.

The edict number 001/2022 must contemplate, in an unprecedented way, basic sportsmen, athletes, and paratheletes from Amazonas, with monthly sponsorships. “The public notice opens tomorrow, and we are investing R$ 5 million in professional soccer clubs for men and women. We are delivering air tickets for those athletes who will participate in national and international competitions, and all this is important because it values these professionals who are dedicated and dedicate their lives to training, to discipline. And it is also an investment in the formation of children who will be our future champions”, explained Wilson Lima.

Sport saves lives

For the president-director of the Amazonas High Performance Foundation (Faar), Jorge Elias Costa de Oliveira, the initiative also serves as motivation to rescue the sports movement in Amazonas, besides becoming a legacy for other generations to come. Jorge also pays attention to those who already receive some kind of benefit.

“This is a very special program for our sport, not only professional but also base sport, besides positively promoting our work that is already so difficult. This scholarship does not exclude any type of aid, in case a high performance athlete already receives local or national sporting social aid”, she emphasized.

State Lawmaker Joana Darc (União Brasil) highlights the government’s action in fomenting sports and, mainly, emphasizes the concern with sports in the interior of the state. “I would like to make a punctuation mark: many governments were concerned with great works and projects. But the minimum, such as embracing and fomenting sports is also necessary. I thank, on behalf of so many families, for the differentiated look and for the first time that the State Government will look at sports in the countryside, sports saves lives and deserves investment”, said State Representative Joana Darc.

Supporting dreams

The mothers who accompanied the young athletes during the launching ceremony also celebrated the initiative and thanked the incentive. For Tatiane Ferreira, 30, mother of two children, ages 8 and 9, who already aspire to be professional players, the support makes all the difference.

“This encourages us because it is good to know that what our children dream for their lives is valued. I know they are still very young, but anyway they show that they have goals in life from an early age. After they joined the soccer school their behavior and discipline improved, and to see an initiative like this, which can help so many people fulfill their dreams, is rewarding,” says the mother of the young athletes.
