MANAUS – The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, launched at the 12th Annual Meeting of the Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF Task Force), which has been held in Manaus since last Wednesday, 16, the program “Guardians of the Forest”, which will benefit 14 thousand families who live in Sustainable Development Reserves (SDR) in the State.

“Today, we are launching a very important program. The biggest environmental services program on the planet, which will benefit families that live in Sustainable Development Reserves. Families that are managing chelonians, pirarucu, that live off the forest resources, and produce resources in a conscious way”, said Wilson Lima.

International debate

The event brings together leaders from more than ten countries that will debate development models for the future of the planet, prioritizing environmental conservation and respecting traditional populations.

The annual meeting of the GCF Task Force is being divided into thematic debates that are aligned with the Manaus Plan of Action (MAP), initially discussed last year at the Conference of the Parties, COP26, in Glasgow, Scotland.

The MAP will chart a path for the GCF Task Force network over the next few years, addressing the areas of: 1. Knowledge, Technology, and Innovation; 2. Government and Public Policy; 3. People and Communities; and 4. Finance and Investment.
