MANAUS – While 7,568 new companies were opened in Amazonas in 2022, another 3,557 businesses closed their doors in the same year, a business mortality rate of 47%. The data by the State Board of Trade (Jucea), based on the Mercantile Registration System (SRM), linked to the Ministry of Economy.

AMAZON AGENCY listened to two experts in business management to find out the reason for failure when it comes to entrepreneurship and owning your own business.

For the president of the Amazonas Regional Council of Economics (Corecon-AM), Mr. Marcus Evangelista, the high mortality rate is still a reflection of the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown of commerce.

“Many workers were laid off and were forced to migrate industries, using their professional experience to open their business. The great villain of this initiative is ignorance, because a person can be very good at a function, but lacks the knowledge to manage it”, explained the economist.

Mr. Evangelista also comments that the changes in the registry for Individual Microentrepreneur, the MEI, made it easier for people to leave informality. This explains why the service segmentation led the number of companies opened last year with a total of 4,235 new businesses in the area, followed by commerce with 2,812, and 295 in the industry segmentation.

“My recommendation for those who plan to open their own business is that they first seek training, take courses in person or on the Internet, which today is there to facilitate. The knowledge in business management will undoubtedly make all the difference for the success of the new venture”, says the president of Corecon-AM.

The best way

“Qualifying yourself to undertake is always the best way”, is what the superintendent director of Sebrae Amazonas, Mrs. Ananda Carvalho Normando Pessoa, also defends. She highlighted that on the site www.am.sebrae.com.br there are several e-books on trends, financial organization, marketing, sales, management, including some online and short term courses.

“We also have at Sebrae several consultancies for small businesses and many of them Sebrae pays 70% of the investment for the entrepreneur, such as, for example: website creation, e-commerce, product design, environment and service design, consultancy for process and productivity improvement, business licenses for operation, consultancies for cost reduction and elimination of production waste, projects for store fronts, store windows, and many others”, she detailed.
