In Manaus, Minister of Tourism regrets exchange of the Amazon for foreign travel: ‘Unacceptable’

MANAUS – The Minister of Tourism, Carlos Alberto Gomes de Brito, lamented this Tuesday, 27, in Manaus, the exchange of the Amazon for abroad as an option for those who want to travel. In an agenda of the ministerial folder in the capital next to the Amazonas State Tourism Company (Amazonastur), Brito defended a joint work with the public power to leverage the sector in the state and pledged to act alongside the Amazon industry.

“It is unacceptable that people travel abroad and not get to know the Amazon, where we are very close, but, sometimes, we are not taking advantage of it”, lamented the minister, during a speech at the Amazonastur headquarters, in the Tarumã neighborhood, in Manaus.

For Carlos Brito, however, this situation changed in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, because people started to look at the Amazon region. “During the pandemic, the 11 million Brazilians who would and were going abroad, started to travel in our Country and started to get to know it. Today, Brazilians defend and speak well of their Country, which we need”, he highlighted.

On the International Tourism Day, celebrated this Tuesday, 27, Carlos Brito has a series of agendas, such as a visit to the Vasco Vasquez Amazon Convention Center, at Constantino Nery Avenue, in the South Center zone, and a meeting with representatives of the local tourist trade at Amazonastur, besides the online event “Luggage for the Trade”, broadcasted from a boat on the Rio Negro.

In the capital, the Minister of Tourism stated that the sector is at its best moment post-pandemic and with the certainty that the country is strong. Carlos Brito also addressed the superintendent of the Manaus Free Trade Zone (Suframa), Algacir Polnsi, and said that the region’s manager can count on the federal government’s portfolio to leverage business tourism in the industry.

“You can count on us, superintendent. We have been working hard on business tourism. Tourism that is growing every day. In the last year, we had a growth of more than 300% and we can make this alignment here, especially with you.”

Before the minister spoke, the superintendent of the Manaus Free Trade Zone (Suframa), Algacir Polsin, also spoke and highlighted the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM) as an attraction for business tourism. “I see a great potential and consider that the Industrial Pole of Manaus is interesting to be taken into consideration by the Ministry of Tourism”, he emphasized.

Already president of Amazonastur, Gustavo Sampaio, made an assessment of the management and highlighted the sector’s investment in the last four years, which totaled approximately R$ 105 million applied to promote tourism as a vector of socioeconomic development in the state. According to the manager, the investment in the segment rose from R$ 22 million in 2019 to R$ 32 million in the first half of 2022 alone.

Sampaio reinforced the partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and remembered, still, that the actions of Amazonastur in Amazonas, as the Delivery of Ordinance Plans, technical visits and conducting the qualification courses for tourism service providers, in addition to the allocation of funds to the actions of benefits to tourism workers affected by the pandemic.
