In meeting with owners of news portals, president of the OAB/AM highlights the importance of technical journalism

MANAUS (AM) – The president of the sectional of the Brazilian Bar Association in Amazonas (OAB/AM), Jean Cleuter Simões, highlighted the role of digital media in combating false information, the fake news, and reaffirmed the commitment of the OAB/AM with technical and quality journalism.
The manifestation of Jean Cleuter occurred during a meeting on Tuesday, 22, at the headquarters of the Order, in the South-Central Zone of Manaus, with owners of Amazon news portals representing the group “It’s Fact”, a campaign that prints the seal of quality Journalism to sites that produce content.
“I congratulate the initiative of the group in seeking to aggregate representatives of the press that value technical journalism”, he said.
“The OAB/AM has always positioned itself in the fight against fake news and digital media have a key role in the search for quality journalism”, said the president of the OAB/AM.
During the meeting, the group asked for the Bar’s support to promote debates between the press and the class representative entities to raise society’s awareness about the responsibility in the dissemination of news.
Jean Cleuter reported that he has already been a victim of the dissemination of fake news and had difficulties to report the person responsible for the false information. “It is very important that news portals have, at least, a fixed address”, he added.
The group “É Fato” (It’s Fact) is formed by 15 sites of the Digital Media of Manaus (see list at the end of the text) committed against the dissemination of fake news. They are constituted as companies, for more than two years in the market, with fixed address, and have professional journalists identified in their payroll as responsible for the content.
The meeting between the president of the OAB/AM and owners of news portals was attended by representatives of the BNC Portal (journalist Neuton Corrêa), Fato Amazônico Portal (journalist Elcimar Freitas and lawyer Sirlane Navegante), Hiel Levy Portal (journalist Hiel Levy), Manaus 360 Portal (journalist Cynthia Blink), Único Portal (journalist Claudio Barboza), Real Time Portal (journalist Liliane Maia), and Cenarium Magazine (journalist Paula Litaiff).
