MANAUS – The governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (União Brasil), and the mayor of the city, David Almeida (Avante), signed on Tuesday, 3, the service order for the construction of the Road Complex Rei Pelé – a tribute to the Brazilian player killed last week -, located in the Rotatorio do Produtor, Autaz Mirim Avenue, East zone of Manaus.

The work begins on Wednesday, 4, to give more fluidity to traffic in the second largest region of the Amazon capital, besides generating jobs and income.

“Pelé won three World Cups, played in four, scored 1,287 goals in his career, with a bad shoe, a bad pitch, a bad salary, and the guy won three World Cups. Therefore, it is more than fair this tribute to the greatest football idol of all Brazilians.”

According to the Manaus City Hall, 200 jobs will be generated in the construction of the complex. The work is part of the package of agreements, signed by the governor and the mayor in October 2021, and will facilitate traffic mobility, interconnecting the avenues Autaz Mirim, Itaúba and Camapuã.

“We started this work in partnership with the City Hall from the paving of the streets of Manaus. This made the city gained greater urban mobility and offer conditions, especially in those peripheral areas, so that people can move around more easily, also reducing one of the most critical problems of the Amazon when it comes to more intense rainy season”, said Governor Wilson Lima.

Improvements

The work will begin this Wednesday, 4, with an execution period of 18 to 24 months. The biggest concern was if the traders of the Producer’s Market, located in the surroundings of the complex, would be removed, but the possibility was discarded.

The market vendor Rosivaldo Pinheiro works at the market, located in front of the construction site, for 12 years. He hopes that the construction will not disturb the movement and that, when completed, it will improve the fluidity of the site.

“We hope that what usually happens with other construction works doesn’t happen, when the construction work is finished and the access to the market is closed, then it will be bad for us. So far, it’s good for us and we hope for better things. That’s what we want”, he said.

The roundabout of the Feira do Produtor, according to technical studies of the City Hall, receives an average of 8.2 thousand vehicles per day, at peak hours, between 5pm and 7pm. Community leader Fábio Mendes has lived in the East Zone for over 30 years and his greatest expectation is that the “chaotic” traffic in the locality will have greater fluidity.

“The work is of utmost importance for us, leaders and residents of the East and North zone because it will improve the flexibility of the population, the traffic will improve. Our biggest problem is the traffic flow of the cars, the traffic is very chaotic here”, he added.
