MANAUS – Vice-President of the House of Representatives and federal lawmaker for the Amazonas, Marcelo Ramos made official, on Tuesday, 7, his departure from the Liberal Party (PL) because of the affiliation of the President of the Republic Jair Messias Bolsonaro, who joins the acronym since November 30 this year. The parliamentarian said he was personally uncomfortable to be embarked on a project he does not believe in.

“I could very well say ‘I’m not voting for the president and I’m going to my state. But, my personal discomfort is to be embarking on a project that I don’t believe in”, said Marcelo Ramos, in a statement to the press.

Marcelo Ramos reinforced that the natural path he intends to follow in the 2022 elections is to seek reelection as a federal lawmaker. The parliamentarian also said that he is willing to talk to any party that calls him.

Bolsonaro

After two years without a party, President Jair Bolsonaro joined the PL on November 30, in a ceremony held in Brasilia (DF), consolidating his alliance with the Centrão, known as the “third way” of politics. The union of the Chief Executive with the acronym had been expected for almost a month and is a strategy of the president to seek reelection in 2022.

The PL becomes the ninth political party to receive Bolsonaro. The president has previously been affiliated with the Christian Democratic Party (PDC) 1989-1993; Progressive Reform Party (PPR) 1993-1995; Brazilian Labor Party (PTB) 2003 – 2005; Liberal Front Party (PFL) 2005; Progressive Party (PP) 2005 – 2016; Christian Social Party (PSC) 2016 – 2018; and the Social Liberal Party 2018 – 2019.

Embarrassment

In a letter sent to Marcelo Ramos, the president of the PL, Valdermar Costa Neto, authorized the disaffiliation of the parliamentarian of Amazonas from the party, but pointed out that it became untenable the deputy’s permanence in the acronym amid the ideological and political differences between the parliamentarian and the PL.

Costa Neto also recognized the embarrassment with the presence of Marcelo Ramos in the PL, after President Jair Messias Bolsonaro joined the legend. In the letter, however, the party regretted the divergence presented “public and notorious character”, referring to the criticisms of the congressman to the head of the Executive.
