MANAUS – The Federal Police of Amazonas (PF-AM) fulfills 13 search and seizure warrants, on Thursday, 30. Of these, eight are in Manaus, four in the city of Anapolis, countryside of Goiás, and one in the Federal District, Midwest region of the country.

The investigation ‘Operation Enxurrada’ was triggered by the 4th Criminal Court of the Federal Justice and will investigate possible occurrence of the crimes of fraud in bidding, criminal association and embezzlement, provided in the Bidding Law and the Criminal Code, due to irregularities detected in an audit conducted by the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) in the contract for the supply of mineral water units to the National Health Foundation (Funasa), in the year 2017.

According to the investigations of the PF, there is evidence that ‘there was targeting and overpricing in hiring the company investigated’, which, according to the CGU, represented a loss of at least R$ 1,909,181.50.

In a statement, the Federal Police also reported that “those investigated may respond, to the extent of their responsibilities, for the crimes and, if convicted, may serve up to 30 years”, it said.

The operation, called “Enxurrada”, refers to the heavy flooding faced by municipalities in the state of Amazonas in 2017, which motivated Funasa to hire a company to provide mineral water to families affected by the floods.
