MANAUS – The Military Police of Amazonas (PM-AM) published a note of regret, this Thursday, 17, regarding the death of the Military Police Dog Honda. The dog was killed after a confrontation with a jaguar in the municipality of Urucará (260 kilometers from Manaus). Police and Fire Department teams are in the city, in the middle of a dense forest area, searching for three hunters who disappeared on the 5th of this month.

The dog, a Belgian Shepherd Malinois, was part of the staff of the Independent Company of Dogs (CIPCães). The confrontation with the wild animal occurred because it approached the police camp in the city. “The Military Police sympathizes with the team for the imminent loss of its member of the corporation. Those who teach about humanity are not always human”, the DPS lamented on social media.
In a video posted on social networks, the State Secretary of Public Safety, General Mansur, lamented what happened and paid tribute to the animal. “The Secretary of Public Safety pays tribute at this moment to this heroic dog, a warrior, fulfilling a mission together with our military police officers,” said the secretary.
Hunters missing
The three hunters, identified as Ademir Serrão, Valdenir Pantoja Serrão, and José Neto, have been missing for 12 days after they left to hunt in the Buçuzal community, rural area of Urucará, and did not return home. Authorities in the region became aware of the situation the next morning, 6, when the search began.
On Saturday, 12, after an intense week of searches without success, the Secretary of Public Safety of the Amazon (SSP-AM), general Mansur, He sent a team of police reinforcement to the city in order to support the search for the missing. According to the folder, 14 men, including nine firefighters, three civil police officers, and two agents of the Integrated Department of Air Operations (Dioa), who take the Petrel aircraft to fly over, were deployed to the region where the hunters disappeared.
