MANAUS (AM) – Residents and basketball players of the neighborhood Parque 10 de Novembro, in the south-central zone of Manaus, joined together and raised funds to carry out a reform in the basketball court of the Social Urban Center (CSU) of the neighborhood this week. In a tone of indignation, the athletes complain about the neglect that the Manaus City Hall has had with the site.

According to the athlete Renan Máximo, the court was forgotten by the Manaus City Hall some time ago and the residents themselves decided to get together to reform the basketball court, so that they could have more conditions to practice the sport. “If we want to make a reform in our court, we have to get together, make a little collection of money, paint the court and get a new table. In the last ten years, at least, it has been like this”, he explained.

Renan also said that for about two years, the athletes have been suffering with another problem, which is the electric lighting at the site. “We have had another problem here, the light on the court. Because CSU has a very old wiring system, several improvisations have been made over the years to get energy for the folk festivals and for the ‘food court’ of the center, and with this the light of the basketball court has been affected too much, we spend weeks or months without light, playing in the dark”, he said.

Return

Renan says that the CSU basketball team contacted the site’s administration to find out what measures could be taken and how they could help the residents and the athletes. “We contacted the park’s administration and they informed us that the Department of Women, Social Assistance and Citizenship (Semasc) is in charge of the site”, he said.

Renan also explained that the athletes needed to raise about R$ 1,154 and this amount was raised in two days. “Through our WhatsApp group, each one sent a Pix of how much they could donate”, he explained. Renan also said that, because of an appeal from the population and the athletes, the company City Luz should go to the site this Saturday, 28, to fix the electrical wiring of the court and replace the reflectors.

The athlete pointed out that despite the promise, until the closing of this article, the company still had not gone to the site to make the repairs. “They said that the company will only come on September 15th, and until then we will manage as best we can”, he said.

In response to the CENARIUM reporting team, the undersecretary of the Municipal Undersecretary of Youth, Sports and Leisure (Semjel), Platiny Soares, said that there is a project to provide infrastructure improvements in the CSU, but did not set dates or what services should be performed. “It is in the phase of finalizing projects and the total reform of the CSU of Parque 10, Santo Antonio and Santa Etelvina is a priority of the management of the mayor of Manaus”, highlighted.
