VILHENA (RO) – The City Hall of Porto Velho, capital of Rondônia, published on Thursday, 10, a decree that removes the obligation to use a protective mask against Covid-19 in outdoor environments, making the city the fifth in the list of capitals in the Legal Amazon that have already decided not to require the use of protection in these places.

According to the public administration, the decision was made “taking into account the advance of immunization”, as stated in the document signed by the acting mayor, Maurício Carvalho.

Porto Velho is in the green phase, with 73% of the population immunized with two doses (Reproduction/Porto Velho City Hall)

Porto Velho has more than 500 thousand inhabitants and, according to the city hall, the vaccination has already exceeded 820 thousand doses applied against Sars-Cov-2, contemplating 73% of the residents with, at least, two doses of immunizers. On the other hand, the Executive has not informed whether the flexibilization will also be allowed in places that share indoor and outdoor areas, such as schools, for example.

The only reservation is that if the epidemiological picture of the disease worsens, the use of masks will again be mandatory, even in open environments, that is, if the city returns to the yellow, orange, or red phase. Currently, the capital is in the green phase.

Amazon Capitals

Besides Porto Velho, four other capitals have already allowed the use of masks outdoors: Boa Vista, Macapá, São Luís, and Manaus, the latter having defined the removal of the obligation for the next 16th.
