MANAUS (AM) – The Amazonas State Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP-AM) has compulsorily retired Amazonas prosecutor Walber Luís Silva do Nascimento, who was removed from office by the National Council of Public Prosecutors (CNMP) after associating criminal lawyer Catharina Estrella with a dog during a hearing at the 3rd Jury Court in Manaus. The substitute Attorney General, Aguinelo Balbi Júnior, signed the document.

According to the act published in the MP-AM’s Electronic Official Journal on Wednesday, 27, the prosecutor will receive a salary of R$ 37,700, equivalent to the salary of active civil servants, plus R$ 4,600 for irreducibility, which totals R$ 42,300 per month. Walber Nascimento will also be entitled to a 13th salary.

“To retire for length of service on the basis of art. 21-A of Complementary Law no. 30, of December 27, 2001, text consolidated on July 29, 2014, with art. 3, caput and items I, II and III, with sole paragraph of Constitutional Amendment no. 47, of July 5, 2005. 47, of July 5, 2005, the Prosecutor of Justice, WALBER LUIS SILVA DO NASCIMENTO (…) of the Permanent Staff of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Amazonas, with full benefits and parity with the remuneration of active civil servants”, reads an excerpt from the publication.

Remember the case

Prosecutor Walber Nascimento made an analogy between criminal lawyer Catharina Estrella and a “bitch” during a hearing at the 3rd Jury Court in Manaus on September 13. “I wouldn’t offend a dog”, she told the lawyer, referring to the jurist and the animal.

“I said that dogs were faithful, they were loyal. Taking loyalty into account, I couldn’t make that comparison between her and a dog, because otherwise I’d be offending the dog”, Nascimento said in a video that circulated on social media.

The Amazonian Association of Public Prosecutors (AAMP), which represents the public prosecutor’s office, expressed support for the prosecutor and said that Walber’s statement had been distorted by the lawyer and that the accusation was “unfair”.
