Authored by Senator Chico Rodrigues (União RR) – linked to groups of miners, the draft resolution that aims to establish the Parliamentary Broad Front of Support for Mining in the Amazonian States, was presented in the Senate and awaits to be evaluated for effective operation. According to the text of the new proposition, the Front will have as one of its purposes: “to orient, support and help in the formulation of public policies that promote the incentive to the use of mineral resources and the maintenance of technological, natural and social research programs in the Legal Amazon area”.

Promotion of violence

For the partner-founder of the Socio-environmental Institute (ISA), Márcio Santilli, the idea of the project to create another parliamentary front for mining, since one already exists, seeks to escape from discussing and negotiating with representatives of the formal mining companies, which have control over the collegiate. Santilli explains that he sees behind the idea a way to promote predatory mining in the Amazon. For him, done spontaneously and without legality, the activity promotes invasion of conservation units, without any mineral research work, “taking areas on the basis of violence, and needs to be fought”.

STF and Indigenous Lands

On June 23, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) will deliberate again on the future of indigenous lands in Brazil. The president of the Court, Minister Luís Fux, has included extraordinary appeal No. 1.017.365, known as the “Xokleng case”, on the trial agenda. This means that the understanding that the Supreme Court adopts in this case will serve as a parameter for all indigenous lands in the country. At the center of the debate, two theses are in dispute. The thesis of the original right of indigenous peoples. And, on the other side, the thesis of the temporal landmark, defended by the ruralists and by President Bolsonaro.

PT’s platform in MG

In an attempt to unlock the imbroglio of Lula’s platform in Minas Gerais, the PT appointed congressman Reginaldo Lopes (MG) to lead the negotiations. The second largest electoral college in the country, Minas Gerais may strengthen the PT candidacy if the talks with Alexandre Kalil (PSD), stalled since the end of the party window, progress. The PT has identified signs coming from Kalil’s entourage that the way is now open for dialogue. The biggest obstacle is the dispute between Lopes and Alexandre Silveira (PSD) for the Senate seat. Lopes’ empowerment was defined in a recent meeting with Lula.

PSDB Research

The presidents of PSDB, Bruno Araújo, and MDB, Baleia Rossi, already have in their hands a survey commissioned by them and by Cidadania. The survey was conducted by the Guimarães Institute, from Campinas, and aimed at analyzing the potential of the so-called third way candidates in order to choose a consensus name. There were 2 thousand interviews all over the country. The results have not yet been released, nor have they been passed on to the pre-candidates João Doria and Simone Tebet. But it will serve as an argument for the discussion of the Toucan executive, called for this Tuesday, 17, on an emergency basis, after another letter of protest from Doria.
