MANAUS- In order to promote the prevention and confrontation of lethal violence against children, adolescents and youth, the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Cristiane Britto and the Governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, signed, on Wednesday, 13, the National Pact for the Reduction of Lethality among Children and Youth in Amazonas. The ceremony took place at the Vasco Vasques Convention Center (CCAVV), on Constantino Nery Avenue, in the Midwest area of Manaus.

In compliance with the agenda in the capital of Amazonas, besides the signature of the National Pact, the minister also participated in the closing of the training of the Protected Children program where more than 800 people from all over the state were enrolled to participate in the training held through the Secretariat of Justice, Human Rights, and Citizenship (Sejusc), the entire protection network of the Protected Children program.

“We understand that in order to have public policies to protect our children we need to strengthen the protection network and the state of Amazonas comes out ahead by joining this framework and we have a stamp that we will give to the states that have proven to have a reduction in lethality. Let’s save our children together”, declared the minister.

According to the adjunct national secretary of the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights Eduardo Melo, between 2012 and 2018 there was an average of 10,600 child deaths per year resulting from aggression. As of 2019 the cases dropped to an average of 6,800 cases the equivalent of almost a 41% reduction.

“We still consider it little, but we will do much more to make it better. Remembering that the federal government gives the diagnosis and the state government presents a plan for dealing with it. We hope to be back here very soon with the diamond seal that proves the reduction by indicators of lethal violence against children and adolescents”, highlighted the adjunct.

Scheduled to be implemented both in the capital and in the countryside, the project aims to strengthen and improve the service of cases of violation of the rights of children and adolescents practiced by professionals of the System of Guaranteeing the Rights of Children and Adolescents (SGD) and by state and municipal managers.

Resulting from Technical Cooperation Agreement No. 04/2019/MMFDH, signed in 2019 the training program started in November 2021 in a virtual way improving the agents that integrate the System of Guarantee of Rights of Children and Adolescents, ensuring assistance and protection of the child and adolescent victim or witness of violence, under Law No. 13.431/2017.

According to the secretary (Sejusc), Émerson Lima, the leveling of actions is important for being able to attend both city and countryside children in the same way. During the closing, Governor Wilson Lima stressed that he is keen to integrate all the secretariats in order to advance policies aimed at children and youth.

“It’s a careful look and the training we finish today is the result of a commitment we made in 2019 and we will continue to move forward,” concluded the governor Wilson Lima.
