MANAUS – The study “Mapping of technologies developed from biofuels in the Amazon”, presented on Wednesday, 7, at the 307th Meeting of the Administrative Council of Suframa (CAS), points to the potential of patents in the Amazon.

The data was presented by the representative of the Supervision and Control Board of the Ministry of Economy, Mário Morais, and brings the main patents, i.e. new technologies developed from the use of bio-inputs from the Brazilian Amazon region.

As presented, the main Amazonian products used in these creations are babassu (4.9%), cupuaçu (5.6%) and açaí (10.1%). The identification of these products and their potentials are important for the creation of business models that transform the inputs into currencies of exchange, through the negotiation of technology transfer contracts.

The expectation with the study and development of this monitor is that this knowledge and technology transfer models will be applied in the actions of the Amazon Biotechnology Center (CBA), also responsible for the creation of new products and technologies using Amazonian bioproducts.

Chaired by the special secretary of Productivity and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy, Alexandre Ywata, the meeting also included the assessment of investments for Suframa and the disclosure of the result of the public call for proposals for the management of the CBA.

The Fundação Universitas de Estudos Amazônicos (Fuea) was the classified candidate in the first stage of the call to act as a social organization. Fuea met the requirements of the public notice of the CBA and can sign the management contract.

The objective of the creation of a CNPJ for the CBA is to turn the centre, which until now is directed exclusively to research, into a vector of investments in bioeconomy. “The foundation has met the necessary requirements for qualification, I think this is the most important news and with the following steps I hope that later this year we will deliver the legal figure and the new management for the CBA”, said the Special Secretary of Productivity and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy, Alexandre Ywata.

The meeting this Wednesday, 7, closes an intense calendar of CAS activities throughout 2022, bringing to the fore discussions about investments and industrial projects that foresee total investments of approximately R$ 6 billion and the generation of 9,776 new jobs in the Manaus Free Trade Zone.
