MANAUS – The Federal Police arrested, on Wednesday, 26, three men appointed as perpetrators of the attack on the helicopter EC130 B4 of the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA). The aircraft was burned last Monday, 24, on the premises of the Aircraft Club of Amazonas, where it was parked, in Flores neighborhood, north of Manaus.

According to the Federal Police, the suspects were in different locations in the the North Zone of Manaus. They were taken, even on Wednesday night, to the Superintendence of the PF, in the Dom Pedro neighborhood, Midwest, where they spent the night giving statements.

It is suspected that the aircraft was destroyed as a form of retaliation for the operations against illegal mining in the Amazon, but the real motivation is still under investigation. The police do not rule out the participation of others involved.

Teams from the Aircraft Club did not inform how the suspects had access to the hangar where the aircraft was parked.

Moreover, in a note, CBMAM reported that a team from the 22nd Community Interactive Company (Cicom) received the call and, soon after, went to the site. “In total, approximately one thousand liters of water were used to control the flames”, it reported.
