MANAUS – After years waiting for revitalization works, the residents of the community of Sharp, in the east zone of the capital, received on Monday, 12, the news of the launch of the works of the Social and Environmental Program of Manaus and Interior (Prosamim +) with investments of $ 542 million, resources are funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Two thousand families will be benefited by the project.

During the launch of the program, the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima (PSC), said that this is one of the largest infrastructure work made by his government. “Today is a very happy day for me and a day of accomplishment, not as governor, but a day of accomplishment as a citizen, as a human being, because what we are doing here is a work to change people’s lives,” detailed the governor.

“The lives of the people of the Sharp community will start to change from today. This is the biggest work of our government, to do what we are doing you have to have courage. In December I will come here to sign the contract with you so that in January we can start the construction work and you can see the machines working,” said Lima.

Stages

According to the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), Prosamim+ brings together the experiences and lessons learned in the execution of large infrastructure projects and the transformation of the lives of thousands of families who were removed from risk areas and areas subject to flooding through the Prosamim program, held in the southern part of the capital of Amazonas, and ProsaiMaués, in the city of Maués.

In Manaus, Prosamim+ will represent the continuity of the interventions and requalifications started by the State government in the watersheds of 40, Educandos and São Raimundo, moving the axle of their interventions, for the first time, to the east zone of Manaus, in the Armando Mendes neighborhood. In the next stages, the program will have the interventions extended to a city in the state’s countryside.

Dream

For over 25 years living in the community of Sharp, Silvana Mendes said that the works of Prosamim are an old dream of those who live in the region, because only those who live in that area know the hardships they live because of the rain that every time flood homes.

“We are in this fight not from today, thank God that this program will happen, because there were sleepless nights, rains that we had to call the press. I caught many diseases there, dengue, Chikungunya and the coronavirus twice,” reported Silvana.

Neighbourhoods

In its first phase, Prosamim+ will bring more dignity, infrastructure, sanitation, urban planning, housing and environmental recovery to the neighborhoods of Japiim, Coroado, Industrial District and Armando Mendes, located in the south and east zones.

Prosamim+ will start in September with the resettlement processes, followed by the beginning of the construction work in January 2022, the conclusion of the first Housing Court and the first urban parks is expected for February 2023, and the conclusion of all the program’s interventions in May 2025.

Urbanism

The R$86.7 million investment in urbanization will benefit more than 60,000 people in the capital’s south and east zones, covering an area of 340,000 m², with the construction of new urban parks, urban mobility works, squares, multi-sports courts, playgrounds, public restrooms, new roads, and led public lighting.

Housing

The housing and resettlement works will benefit more than 11,760 people with decent housing and away from flooding, the investments in housing are around R$ 73.8 million. The Prosamim+ housing stock in the Sharp Community will have large housing units, consisting of 648 apartments divided into 81 blocks of four floors and with only two apartments per floor.
